We finally get a morning off, hallelujah!
See the opening picks for the all important third matchday games below and HERE. Three people think Wales are going to win, One person thinks Tunisia are going to beat France, and despite going for Argentina, I think Poland/Lewandowski could pull something out of the bag and ruin Argentina's day. Most over the top crowd of the day - Iran v USA (usa usa usa) Emptiest stadium of the day - Netherlands v Qatar Craziest kick-fest of the day - Ecuador v Senegal Best player of the day - Foden/Bale - Please delete as appropriate. Fact of the Day - COME ON ENGLAND!!!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone, but it's just four days before we're in the land of penalty shoot-outs.... that's it, they're crap, I hate them.
See below, and HERE, for the standings after the first two matchday games. Four players lead the way on 19 points, with one player propping up the table with 11. The players in green are those that would proceed if we stopped now. I'm expecting the score required to proceed to the knockout stages to be 23 or 24 and above, but anything can happen as teams fight for survival and honour. Even I, with my new found spreadsheet skills (not something I thought I'd ever thought I'd be saying in my line of work), can't keep up with the myriad permutations that will give us the final 16 teams to proceed to the knockout stages. So sit back, work out if you can get both daytime games up on your computer at the same time and continue to wonder if Wales can score 4 goals, Belgium can really be that bad and Brazil, France, Spain can continue to look that good.....? (Other teams are available to fret over, take your pick) Fact 1 - Players average score for matchday 1 games - 9. Matchday 2 - 6.5. So we're getting significantly worse at this. Fact 2 - There's some cracking games coming up this week. Fact 3 - COME ON ENGLAND!!! Dealing with the predictions is pretty hectic, thanks for sticking with it.
I'll keep this simple. See below (and HERE) for everyone's completed picks for the Matchday 2 games. Matchday 3 is going to be split into 2 sets of predictions as well. Part 1, which you should DO NOW, having seen everyone play their second game. This needs to be with me by MONDAY NIGHT. And Part 2, which needs to be with me by WEDNESDAY NIGHT, but you've yet to see these teams play their second games, so I'll come back and remind you on Monday. We're at the halfway mark in these group games, with the points are spread out from 15 (10 of us) to 9 (two), so no one's out of it yet. Cheers Here we go with another flurry of matches, with six of you thinking that Iran are going to beat Wales...... *some joke about a leek in the defence.... I don't know, it's too early for this.
Now all the matchday 1 games are over, you can click HERE to make your predictions for the second half of the match day 2 games, which need to be with me by SATURDAY NIGHT...... or now, whilst you have your breakfast!!!!! Here are all your predictions for the first half of the matchday 2 games. Alexi and Norman are obviously waiting until the last minute, but I'm busy this morning, so will update after the Wales game. Friday fact 1 - Nobody picked any of the six players currently on two goals for the golden boot. Friday Fact 2 - COME ON ENGLAND!!!! Some interesting opening games to say the least......... If I was someone with an overly active imagination, I'd almost say the defeats for Argentina and Germany were orchestrated by someone who wanted the English fans to have something more to cheer about other than their opening win...... But that kind of person would immediately take our result as a sign that we were odds on for a place in the final..... And that's obviously not what any right minded England fan would be feeling at this moment..... is it?
See below and HERE for everyone's current scores. The cutoff to progress to the knock out stages is currently 9, meaning 62/90 of us would go through, but we're only a third of the way through the group games, so a long way to go yet. Here's the link for you to predict the rest of second matchday games, these need to be with me by SATURDAY NIGHT. But you can save yourself the constant email reminders by getting it done now..... immediately..... if not sooner. Biggest surprise so far - Obviously Australia losing to France.... But that may be an isolated incident in my living room. Matchday 1 Fact - That is a record number (4) of 0 - 0 draws in the opening set of games of a World Cup. Seven is the record for the whole tournament.... I think we're going to beat it. Matchday 1 Fact No.2 - Ronaldo leaving Man U was totally down to the fact that only Simon picked him for the golden boot. Matchday 2 fact - COME ON ENGLAND!!! |
