What a game!!! More than I hoped it would be, even though it ended with penalties.
So, while all the trophies are being handed out, to clarify, the final result is Justin wins. No one predicted the correct score at 90 minutes, so it goes to who predicted the overall winner and had the highest points total from all the previous predictions. Congratulations Justin, £450 is winging its way to you now!! Thanks to everyone for taking part, it's been a great competition, and I for one am over the moon that Messi gets to lift the World Cup trophy.

Finally the final. Thank goodness this only happens every four years.
And just think, in 2026 there'll be 48 teams..... Ha..... I think I might retire. The permutations of who can win and who already can't, due to picking the same score as someone with a better points total than you, are numerous and frankly, I don't need to or want to explain at this point. With 20 players left in, there's a perfect 50/50 split for Argentina and France. It's only those of us without any skin in the game that make the predictions lean slightly towards France. Let's enjoy the final. It's set up to be an absolute corker of a game (fingers crossed) with two amazing teams, both with individuals who can change a game with a dip of a shoulder. I'll be back later to announce the winner, who'll then be able to afford to put the oven on to cook the Xmas turkey. Fact 1 - Come on Messi The results weren't that surprising, but Morocco...... what a performance.
We lost five players in the Semi's, with Emma's Croatia/Morocco picks sadly not giving her an early win. Shout out to Justin who accumulated the highest amount of points through the competition so far, with 38 correct predictions out of a possible 62, one ahead of Anna and Seamus. No prizes for this, just bragging rights. Now comes the tricky bit...... What is the score going to be at the end of 90 minutes on Sunday. For those of you that have made it this far, click HERE to make your predictions for the final. You have until Saturday night. Even if you've been knocked out, feel free to send in a prediction, I'll make up a separate 'losers' list. I'm going for 3-3 at 90 minutes...... which will include a Messi hat-trick and Lloris scoring the decider in the penalty shoot-out. Just to reiterate, the winner will be the player that correctly predicts the score at 90 minutes. If we have more than one correct prediction, the player who predicted correctly and accumulated the highest number of points throughout the competition will win, and if we still have a tie, we go to the golden boot pick as a decider.... after that, we'll just split the pot. I'll be back on Saturday with everyone's predictions. Over 24 hours to go before the first Semi Final and all the predictions are in.
Remember, you have to predict both Semi Final winners correctly to get through to the final. 20 of our remaining 25 players have gone for Argentina & France, 4 have gone for Croatia & France and then there's Emma, out on her own with Croatia & Morocco. GO EMMA!!!!! You could win the £450 pot before the final kicks off. Rules will have to be checked, and possibly written, to see who gets the pot if Argentina and Morocco win, but it'll be something to do with points accumulated and the golden boot prediction you made. I'll be back on Wednesday night to tell you if any of us even have to bother watching the final? Fact 1 - Go Dave the cat Where to start?
I can't........ so ............ See below for the results from the quarters. 25 of you made it through, with the scores for the R16 and Quarters being cumulative. If your names in green, you are through and can make your next predictions here. To get to the final you have to predict both the semi final winners.... which after the quarters performance, where no one got more then 2 correct, it might be a bit of a push for anyone to get through? You have until Monday night to get your picks in. Fact 1 - Rinse and repeat.... and I'm not talking about Giroud's hair! Fact 2 - Come on ..... Morocco? Maybe? Argentina... I think I'd prefer? |
