Here we go everyone.
This is going to be the most amazing, exciting and inclusive World Cup there's ever been, everyone will enjoy themselves, smile and cheer, wave their flags and chant their...... chants, with the winning team celebrating with a non-alcoholic sparkling beverage of their choice. I was definitely not paid £150m to make this totally independent statement...... I will not comment on anything other than the actual football from now on... you know, trying to keep it light and enjoyable. This is going to be a wild and crazy four weeks. Let's hope the football's good. We have 29 days of football ahead of us, with 32 teams playing 64 games, and with 90 of us playing, the pot is a massive £450. Most of your predictions are reasonable, with, it seems, none of us quite sure how the African and South American teams will be performing until after these first games. We've all got our assumptions about the European teams..... except it seems for my Australian wife, who's convinced that Australia are going to be beat France in their opener..... and I'm obviously now in trouble. Oh, and Tom..... Who's got Iran down to beat England.... I'm just.... I have no words. Mbappe and Benzema are the top two picks for the golden boot, and Argentina are the only team to get everyone's choice in these first match day games. . UPDATE - Benzema is out of the World Cup with an injury. So if you picked him as your golden boot, please email me your second choice by bedtime tonight and I'll update the paperwork tomorrow morning. Everyone's predictions are below or you can click HERE to download a pdf if you'd prefer (it's a bit clearer too). There's some simple stats on the predictions along the bottom, for those of you that are in to that sort of thing. I'll be back with updates and prediction forms for the second and third games as we progress through this once in a lifetime (please dear god make it never happen like this again) World Cup. Good luck everyone, thanks for taking part ..... and remember ...... COME ON ENGLAND!!! (and Australia, I'm told) Saturday Fact - The farthest distance between two stadiums is 35 miles. Which pretty much means all fans are going to be staying in and around Doha. What could possibly go wrong. |
